For the past decade, the streetwear culture, especially the sneakers world, has been gaining a lot of attention. This sneakers culture targeted young adults and teens who are willing to spend thousands of dollars on shoes. In this generation, your clothes and shoes can speak a lot for you and people are willing to go the extra mile for their appearances. Sneakers collaborations are no brainer in the streetwear world. They are super limited and very expensive. In this article, we will examine a few of the most famous sneaker collaborations in the past recent year.

Air Dior:

This is probably the most popular collaboration in the streetwear world of 2020. This collaboration is between the French fashion Christian Diior and the athleisure brand Jordan. Even though there are capsules in this collection, the star focus is on the Dior Air Jordan 1. This creation was brought to life by Kim Jones (Dior Men creative director) and Thiboo Denis (Dior’s men footwear designer). This represents another level of luxury and authenticity for the iconic Jordan 1. The shoes are handcrafted with Italian leather and hand painted. The reason why this is so popular is due to the limited quantities of 8,500 high tops and 4,500 low tops. Another reason is the ridiculous retail price of $2,000 per pair which can range up to $15,000 in resale. In total, there are 13,000 pairs of the shoes produced, with 5,000 pairs offered to Dior's top clients, and the remaining 8,000 pairs for the rest of the world. So unless you are extremely wealthy or are in Dior’s top clients, it is nearly impossible to get your hands on a pair of these shoes.

Off-white x Nike:

Off white and Nike have been in touch a very long time. They have created together a total of 46 different shoes. Even though they collab many times, Off-White and Nike sneakers have always sold out and resell with an extreme price. Virgil Abloh, Off-White’s founder, has put the signature of Off-White on many original Nike silhouettes such as Air Force 1, Air Max, Jordans and much more. The reason why their collaboration is always on demand is because of the name Off-White and the limited stock. Off-White is the most hyped and popular brand in the streetwear and luxury world as it is a status symbol and prestige for the younger generation. If you’re wearing Off-White, you are young, rich and cool. And with each release, only a few thousand are sold to a market of millions.

Yeezy x Adidas:

Created by the artist Kanye West and Adidas, this iconic collection is a long 10 years of teamwork and now the Yeezy brand is a part of Adidas. Before collabing with Adidas, West worked with the brand’s rival, Nike. However, after West dropped Nike, Adidas reached out to him with some of the best deals. West created some of the most popular sneakers in the streetwear world. His shoes are some of the most faked shoes made in China. They are so popular because of a unique style and the name Kanye. Kanye West is not only a critically acclaimed artist but also a fashion icon. He is one of the most famous rappers in the world. With all these facts, the Yeezy shoes model are some if not the most famous sneakers in the world.

Travis Scott x Nike:

Nike got lucky when they signed with rapper Travis Scott. Travis Scott blew up with his famous trap music and unique style. Both his music and style have influenced the hip hop industry today. He has created multiple collections (both capsules and shoes included) with Nike. He created a pair of Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 4, Air Jordan 5, Air Max and more. His Jordan 4 that he created for his family and friends got out and now resale for $15,000 a pair. His collections are super limited and have an extremely high resale price.

Pharrell x Adidas:

Other than Kanye West, Pharrel Williams is one of the other very important collaborators of Adidas. Pharrel, like West, has many collections released under Adidas. This partnership has been going on since 2014. His most popular model is his Human Race NMD shoes, which come in a multitude of colors and options. His most exclusive pair of sneakers is those in collaboration with Chanel and Adidas. This pair has the resale price of $20,000. Pharrel collections with Adidas are always anticipated.

After this article, I have discovered the formula for a hype up sneakers collection. We need an established athletic brand and something (or someone) that is popular at that moment. Also this type sneakers collections are priced very high and the quantities are super limited. Social media also pays a huge factor on popularising sneaker collaborations.
