Vietnamese-owned Fashion Houses You Need to Know

For the past decade in Vietnam, the fashion industry has been expanding fast. As one of the fastest developing countries in the world, Vietnam has seen a rise in demand for luxury items. This motivated more high-end Western brands to penetrate the Vietnamese fashion market while also making room for up and coming Vietnamese-owned brands. Here are four high-end fashion houses that are taking the Vietnamese fashion world by storm.
La Pham
Fashion designer, Ngoc Anh Pham, founded a contemporary Ao Dai fashion house called La Pham. Ngoc Anh studied Environmental Science in Switzerland, but then found her true passion in fashion. La Pham carried out many clothing items, but the brand's main focus is in the Vietnamese traditional costume, Ao Dai. The fashion house transformed the regular Ao Dai into something new and fresh. La Pham produced many collections over the past few years like bridal wear and their seasonal collection. “Sleep No More” was the most recent and successful collection. The theme of the collections was inspired by the 1920s and the Great Gatsby era. There were tuxedo and flapper-inspired Ao Dai. The common element of this collection was feathers, fringes, pearls, and gloves. The runway show was packed with celebrities like singer My Linh and many famous models. La Pham is soon becoming a household name. The brand provides elevated and unique Ao Da and is suitable for women who want to be unique and classy at the same time.




Vu Viet Ha
Vu Viet Ha founded his self-titled fashion surrounding creating beautiful Ao Dai. Viet Ha is different from other fashion designers as he finds the bases for his brand in traditional values. He is also an instructor at Hanoi College of Art. The designer who incorporated ethnic culture and different high-end fabrics into his Ao Dai. However, this doesn’t make the Ao Dai outdated, it actually made it more unique and high fashion. With Viet Ha skills in fashion, he produced amazing Ao Dai that incorporated embroideries of the traditional culture of Vietnam. He also used many expensive fabrics like silk, linen, ethnic fabrics, and mesh. He created a fusion between fabrics to create texture in the Ao Dai. His Ao Dais are neutral in color while being modern and unique. Vu Viet Ha’s Ao Dai’s are for special occasions like parties, festivals, and photoshoots.




Cong Tri
With decade-long experience, Cong Tri is the most well-known fashion house. After graduating from Fine Arts from the Ho Chi Minh City University of the Arts, he taught himself how to be a fashion visionary. He is also the first Vietnamese designer to launch a Haute Couture brand in 2013. Not only is his brand popular in the country, but it is also a worldwide household name. His brands established many loyal celebrity customers from Rihanna, Beyonce to Michelle Obama, and Miley Cyrus. Cong Tri also has famous Vietnamese clients like Ho Ngoc Ha and Toc Tien. His brand is a stable favorite on red carpet and magazines. Cong Tri designs are luxurious and elegant. He creates many gorgeous gowns while also creating many ready-to-wear pieces. His designs are also laboriously-sourced fabrics and transparent. The male designer's aesthetic is the details of his crafts. He used many techniques involving hand pleating, laser cutting, interlacing, and hand painting. Cong Tri’s creations are a representation of his roots which are then transformed into beautiful wearable pieces of art.




Phuong My
Phuong My is an established luxury bridal wear founded by the designer Tran Phuong My. Phuong My graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco then came back to Vietnam to open her brand. She has also featured in the Forbes Vietnam 30 under 30 List. Phuong My, unlike other Vietnamese designers, sources her materials from all around the world including France, Hong Kong and Milan. This created a diversity and exclusivity in the pieces of her collections. Her designs have been featured in many magazines like Elle, Harper Bazaar and Vogue. Last year was a monumental moment for Phuong My when Beyonce wore her dress to an award ceremony. Her clients are some of the richest women in the world, paying upwards of tens of thousands of dollars for a piece. Her fashion pieces usually feature the colors of red, black, and white. The designer bridal wear is not regular pretty gowns but is more than that. They are avant-garde, high fashion gowns for people who are not afraid to stand out. The clothes are not for everyday wear, but are for special occasions.



Each and every one of the four brands brought something new to the Vietnamese market. They all breathe something new and fresh while still representing their roots.
